This Christmas please give what you can to keep the smiles on the faces of our dementia day club members and their families.
At Daybreak Oxford, we love helping people to live well with Dementia. We currently run three, excellent day clubs in the Oxford and Kidlington areas; providing our members with daily cognitive stimulation therapy (CST) such as art activities, gentle physical activity, music and simple problem-solving games, with full participation from our well-trained staff and friendly volunteers. Not only this, but we help our members’ families and carers by giving them respite from their care-giving responsibilities while the member attends the club. For those carers who may need an extra lift or simply someone to talk to, we also offer support groups within our clubs.
We are the only day centres in Oxfordshire that provide this kind of therapy and support on a daily basis.
Cognitive stimulation therapy is really important for a person with dementia, as it improves memory re-call and retention, problem solving skills and language abilities, which enables a continued level of independence. We are the only day centres in Oxfordshire that provide this kind of therapy and support on a daily basis. Daybreak also provides socialisation, company, friendship and a hot mid-day meal to members when they attend the clubs, which for some can be invaluable.
The cost to attend our day clubs is £20 per member, per day. We strive to keep this ‘core’ cost as low as possible for our members and this is why we are asking for your help this Christmas. Daybreak receives no government funding and we rely solely on the charitable fundraising efforts and donations of the public or grants from corporate supporters and organisations.
This festive period, please give what you can so that we can continue to run our day centres smoothly and keep our member’s costs low. A donation of £20 will help us to pay for the core costs of operating our day centres and allow us to investigate the possibility of opening more centres across Oxfordshire for people who may need it in 2019.
